Product Description

70 Series Single Row Angular Contact Ball Bearings
Precision Grades P5 / P4 / P2  |  15° / 25° / 40° Contact Angles  |  For CNC Spindles & High-Speed Precision Equipment
Luoyang Rock Precision Bearing Co., Ltd.

1. Product Description

70 series bearings are single-row angular contact ball bearings. The raceways are designed so that the contact line between the balls and raceways forms an angle with the radial plane - the contact angle. This geometry allows the bearing to carry both radial and unidirectional axial loads simultaneously. The larger the contact angle, the higher the axial load capacity; the smaller the angle, the higher the permissible speed. These bearings are non-separable and are typically mounted in pairs (DB / DF / DT) or as universal-matched sets for bidirectional axial location
We supply three standard contact angles: 15° (suffix C) for maximum speed, 25° (suffix AC) for balanced speed and axial rigidity, and 40° (suffix B) for heavy axial loads. All bearings are manufactured to ISO 492 tolerances with precision grades from P5 to P2. Bore diameter range: 10 mm - 320 mm. Standard models 7000-7032 are available from stock or on short lead time; larger and non-standard sizes on request

3. Why Choose Our 70 Series Bearings

  • P2 / P4 / P5 Precision: Made to ISO 492 tolerances. P4 and P5 are standard stock items; P2 made-to-order. Every bearing is 100% inspected for runout, dimensional accuracy, and noise before shipment.
  • High Speed Capability: The 15° C-type with optimized ball guidance and phenolic / polyamide cage achieves limiting speeds up to 32,000 rpm (7000C) with grease and even higher with oil-air - ideal for high-frequency spindles and grinding heads.
  • Multiple Contact Angles & Matched Sets: 15° (C), 25° (AC), 40° (B) available. We supply pre-matched DB / DF / DT pairs and universal-matched sets (UL / UO) with controlled light / medium / heavy preload - ground to precise width tolerances for direct mounting.
  • Low Noise & Vibration: Balls graded to G5 / G10; raceways super-finished to Ra ≤ 0.05 μm. Vibration values in Z3 / Z4 group, noise below 45 dB - critical for high-precision surface finish.
  • Cage & Material Options: Machined brass (M), phenolic resin (TPA), polyamide (TN), or pressed steel cages. Hybrid ceramic Si3N4 balls available for ultra-high-speed (+30% speed) and electrical insulation. W33 oil groove, 2RS seals, S1-S3 heat stabilization on request.
  • Factory Direct & Traceable: In-house manufacturing in Luoyang from forging to assembly. ISO 9001 certified. Full material traceability by heat number; every bearing laser-marked with part number and batch code.

9. Materials & Construction

Rings and balls are made from GCr15 (SUJ2 / 100Cr6) high-carbon chromium bearing steel from certified mills, with full material certificates and heat-number traceability. Rings are martensitic quenched and tempered to HRC 58-64; balls to HRC 60-66. S1 (+150 °C), S2 (+200 °C), and S3 (+250 °C) heat-stabilized versions are available for high-temperature use. For corrosion-resistant applications, 9Cr18 (440C) stainless steel is available.
Balls are lapped to G5 / G10 precision with surface roughness Ra ≤ 0.025-0.05 μm. Raceways are super-finished to Ra ≤ 0.05 μm (P4/P2) or Ra ≤ 0.1 μm (P5). Smooth surfaces mean less friction, less noise, and longer life - critical in high-speed spindles where lubrication film is thin.

9.1 Cage Options

Cage Type Suffix Material Best For Max Temp
Machined brass M / MB CuZn39Pb3 Heavy loads, high temp, aggressive oils - most durable +250 °C
Phenolic resin TPA / TA Phenolic fabric Ultra-high speed spindles, low friction, oil-air lubrication +120 °C
Polyamide TN PA66-GF25 High speed, low cost, low noise - general-purpose +120 °C
Pressed steel - Low-carbon steel Cost-effective for standard-load, moderate-speed use +180 °C

9.2 Hybrid Ceramic Balls (Optional)

For ultra-high-speed applications, Si3N4 silicon nitride ceramic balls offer:
  • Higher Speed: 60% lighter than steel - reduces centrifugal force, increases limiting speed by up to 30%
  • Insulation: Electrical insulator - prevents electrical pitting in motor / generator applications
  • Less Heat: Lower friction and heat - extends grease life and bearing service life

9.3 Available Options

  • W33 oil groove + 3 oil holes; 2RS double rubber seals; ZZ metal shields
  • C1 / C2 / C3 radial clearance; S1 / S2 / S3 heat stabilization
  • DB / DF / DT pre-matched sets; UL / UO universal matched sets
  • Phosphating, black oxide, or anti-rust coating; custom dimensions to drawing

10. Arrangement & Preload

Single-row angular contact ball bearings carry unidirectional axial load only. For bidirectional location or increased capacity, bearings are mounted in pairs. We supply factory-matched sets verified for width difference and preload force.
Arrangement Code Characteristics Typical Use
Back-to-back DB Good moment rigidity, tolerant of misalignment, stable at high speed CNC machining centers, general spindles
Face-to-face DF Lower moment rigidity, easier mounting Shorter shafts, lower rigidity requirements
Tandem DT Double axial load in one direction; must pair with another bearing for reverse High axial load, screw drives, vertical spindles
Universal UL / UO Interchangeable widths - any two from same batch can be paired DB/DF/DT; factory-set preload High-volume production, easy replacement
Preload eliminates internal clearance and increases rigidity. Too little causes runout; too much generates heat and shortens life.
Preload Class Code Speed Rigidity Typical Application
Light A / UL Highest Lower Ultra-high-speed grinding, finishing, high-frequency spindles
Medium B Good Good General CNC machining centers, milling, moderate cutting
Heavy C Lower Highest Heavy-duty roughing, lathes, boring mills

15. FAQ

Q: What is the difference between 70C, 70AC, and 70B?
A: The suffix indicates the contact angle. C = 15° (highest speed, lowest axial load), AC = 25° (balanced), B = 40° (lowest speed, highest axial load). For most CNC spindles, the 15° C-type is recommended for maximum speed. Choose AC when axial loads are significant, and B for heavy thrust applications.
Q: What does "universal matched" mean?
A: Universal matched bearings (suffix UL or UO) are ground to very tight width tolerances so any two from the same batch can be paired in any arrangement (DB, DF, or DT) without further adjustment. We offer light preload (UL) and zero clearance (UO) universal sets.
Q: Can you make P2 grade? How long does it take?
A: Yes, P2 is available for most 70 series sizes from 7004 to 7030. P2 requires extra grinding, super-finishing, and stricter ball selection, so lead time is usually 25-45 working days. Contact us early for P2 projects.
Q: Should I choose all-steel or hybrid ceramic bearings?
A: Choose hybrid ceramic (Si3N4 balls) when operating speed exceeds 70-80% of the all-steel limiting speed, electrical insulation is needed (motor/generator), or grease life is a concern due to high heat. Choose all-steel when cost is primary, shock loads are significant (ceramic can fracture under heavy shock), or speeds are moderate.
Q: How do I select the right preload?
A: Light preload (Class A / UL) for ultra-high-speed finishing and grinding where heat is the main concern. Medium (Class B) balances speed and stiffness for general milling. Heavy (Class C) maximizes rigidity for heavy-duty roughing but reduces limiting speed. When in doubt, start with light or medium - excessive preload is a common cause of premature failure.
Q: What lubrication do you recommend for high-speed spindles?
A: For maximum speed, oil-air or oil-mist lubrication is best - it delivers precise oil to the contact zone while compressed air cools the bearing. Bearings with W33 (oil groove + 3 holes) are designed for this. For moderate speeds, high-speed spindle grease (lithium complex or polyurea) works well. Always follow your machine builder's specification.
Q: Do you provide inspection certificates and do OEM?
A: Yes. Every shipment can include a Certificate of Conformity (COC); matched sets include preload verification data. Detailed dimensional reports and material certificates (EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2) available for a fee. For OEM, we can laser-mark your brand and part number and use custom packaging - all covered by a confidentiality agreement.
